Coxhoe

 

Coxhoe is a village located a few miles south of County Durham. Coxhoe village developed during the 18^th and 19^th centuries, coal mining was a very popular industry during this time. Coxhoe previously had 2 railway stations at both north and south points. Coxhoe also used to have its own gasworks, this was used to produce gas from the local coal which was then sent around the village pipes. In the present day Coxhoe is considered to be a thriving village, it has a range of facilities including a primary school, doctors surgery, dentist, a leisure centre, there is also a variety of shops on what is known as the front street.
